Maya and the Magic Compass

Maya and the Magic Compass

Ever since I first attended graphic school, I dreamed of writing and illustrating a children’s book. For years, it remained just an idea - one of those gentle ambitions that sits quietly at the back of your mind. Now, with a loving wife and a wonderful twelve-year-old son, the dream has found new meaning and purpose.

Recently, my son was diagnosed with autism, which led me to seek a diagnosis myself. At the age of 52, I discovered that I am also autistic. This new understanding brought clarity to many aspects of my life and, most importantly, allowed me to appreciate my unique way of seeing the world.

This book is the result of my journey - a book to read and enjoy, but also a book about the joy of making something together. At the back, you will find practical tips to help you create your own book with as little stress and frustration as possible. My aim is to share a simple workflow, suitable for anyone who wishes to embark on this creative adventure, whether alone or in collaboration with their children.
Maya and the Magic Compass
There is no right or wrong way - just your way

Creating this book has been a learning process and a source of immense pleasure for me. Along the way, I sought the advice and input of friends, family, and acquaintances, whose support has been invaluable.

Above all, I hope you have as much fun with this book as I did making it. Whether you are reading, illustrating, or creating, remember: there is no right or wrong way - just your way.

From Hollywood Glamour to Cyberpunk Paris...

Creating a Futuristic Movie Poster with AI

There is something timeless about classic Hollywood glamour. The flowing dress, dramatic lighting, and unforgettable movie-star presence have inspired visual culture for decades.

But what happens when that elegance meets futuristic technology?

From Hollywood Glamour to Cyberpunk Paris

Step 1: Reimagining the Icon

The concept started with a classic cinematic scene: a glamorous woman standing above a subway grate on a rainy city night. Instead of recreating the past, the image was pushed into a new direction.

The character became a futuristic cybernetic woman while keeping the elegance, movement, and white flowing dress of the original visual idea.

Step 2: Designing the Cybernetic Body

The goal was not to create a cold robot, but a luxury android with beauty, emotion, and advanced technology.

From Hollywood Glamour to Cyberpunk Paris

Key cybernetic details

  • Polished titanium skeleton
  • White ceramic armor plates
  • Transparent synthetic skin
  • Glowing blue circuitry
  • Mechanical iris with blue light rings
  • Subtle facial cybernetics

Step 3: Building the Cinematic Atmosphere

The environment became just as important as the character. Steam, reflections, rain, neon, and streetlights helped create a strong movie-poster mood.

Atmosphere elements

  • Steam rising from the street grate
  • Rain-kissed pavement
  • Neon reflections in puddles
  • Passing taxis with motion blur
  • Warm golden streetlights
  • Cool blue rim lighting

Step 4: Turning the Image into a Movie Poster

After the visual direction was established, the artwork evolved into a full cinematic poster. The composition became more dramatic, with stronger lighting, bigger scale, and poster-style typography.

This created the feeling of a futuristic science-fiction film with a strong fashion editorial identity.

Step 5: Moving the Story to Paris

The final evolution moved the concept from New York to Europe. Paris became the perfect setting. The Eiffel Tower, elegant architecture, wet streets, and warm café lights added romance and style.

European-style typography gave the image a more refined poster identity, inspired by French cinema, luxury fashion campaigns, and classic film design.

Final Creative Direction

The final concept combines classic cinema, cyberpunk, luxury fashion, and Parisian atmosphere. It feels nostalgic and futuristic at the same time.

The visual mix

  • Classic Hollywood glamour
  • Cyberpunk body design
  • Luxury fashion photography
  • European poster typography
  • Paris at night
  • Science-fiction storytelling

Final Thoughts

The most interesting ideas often appear when two different worlds collide. In this workflow, Hollywood glamour became the foundation for a futuristic android story.

What started as a vintage-inspired image turned into a cinematic AI poster concept set in Paris. A blend of elegance, technology, movement, and imagination.
